Its Ours! From our humble beginnings at the Turner Dumbrell Workshops in 1988, we now are the freeholders of 2, South Street. Although we had a 15 year lease of our shop & basement, when the whole building came up for sale it made sense to purchase. It consists of three shops and three flats, two sold off on long leases but one of which is ours. This is currently empty and we are looking for a tenant. ′Apply within′ as they say!. A Grade ll listed building, this prominent building has been many things, including a workhouse, a butchers and a restaurant. It was even home to Ditchling Press in the early 20thC, when they outgrew the Guild of St. Joseph & St. Dominic on the common, where Dunstan Pruden, Anton’s grandfather, was the silversmith for many years. We look forward to many more creative years here. Exhibition. Our involvement with British Silver Week goes on apace, with at least four other makers exhibiting with us during 10-16th of June including Victoria Delany, Hamilton & Inches, Sarah Stevenson and Lucian Taylor. Following on from this week in June, we will be hosting the touring Connect exhibition. As part of a conference initiative by the Association of British Designer Silversmiths last year, silversmiths were presented with a bowl or a glass and a quantity of silver, and asked to apply their imaginations and silversmithing skills to create a unique piece on the theme of EAT & DRINK. Examples of the highly diverse pieces will be seen in our gallery. Courses. Our regular monthly silversmithing and jewellery making classes continue on Saturdays, taught by the eminent Lucian Taylor. Any ability, beginners welcome. Reply for details. The remaining dates for this year are: June 7; July 5; August 2; Sept 6; Oct 4; Nov 1; Dec 6.
